Two Months

Already. Our sweet little chubby Elaina is two months old already. What a joy she is.

No one's buying it, kiddo. You're strong, but you've got some tubby rolls that hide your muscles quite nicely.
At her 6 week appointment with our midwife, she was just a few ounces shy of 11 pounds. She's definitely eating well and gaining weight. She outgrew her "newborn" sized clothes weeks ago, and fits perfectly into 0-3 month clothes.

Those cheeks. I nibble them.

It's hard to see, but she has a birth mark halfway down her chest, a little to the left of her midline. And bless her heart, she has a normal belly button.

We have lots of names for her, but we usually call her Tiny, Sugar, Sweetie, Cutie, Chubby, and The Little One. It's especially cute when Chloë uses these names.

She's changing so quickly. Just a few weeks ago the poor thing was all covered in baby acne. It started right at 3 weeks, and had cleared up pretty well by 6 1/2 weeks. Here she is at 5 1/2 weeks old:

But then she started smiling:

5 1/2 weeks old. The first picture of her smiling when she's awake. She likes her changing table. She knows that means she's going to get a fresh diaper.

The first little video clip I have of her smiling. 6 1/2 weeks old.

Smiling at her Mimi. 7 1/2 weeks old.

More awake smiles. 6 weeks old.

7 1/2 weeks old.

She's started the cooing and "talking" phase, which is a lot of fun, too. 7 1/2 weeks old.

Of course she's isn't crawling yet, but she's been doing "the inchworm" for a few weeks. She squirms in such a way that she manages to move a foot or so across our bed. I didn't think I'd have a mobile baby on my hands so soon.

She does this weird arm tremor sometimes. I think it happens when she's getting antsy or tired. 7 weeks old.

She's sleeping pretty well; usually for a 4 or 5 hour chunk at night (last night she slept for 6 hours straight!), and then only wakes up to eat every 2 or 3 hours. Sometimes she gets restless and fussy in the middle of the night, and sometimes she's just as happy as a clam. I really don't understand what the contributing factors are. We know she loves being swaddled, so she spends most of the night wrapped up tight in her velcro swaddler.

She loves her bouncy chair and her swing.

Sometimes I feel a little bit guilty that I don't just sit around holding Elaina as much as I did with Chloë, but it's a little different now. I'm very thankful that Elaina is content to be in her bouncy chair or swing, and I can get a few things done. I rarely carry her around in a baby carrier or baby sling, for which my back thanks me.

Just sitting around, enjoying our cozy little life.We do this a lot, especially in the evenings, when Bryan is home.

  1. Compared to Elaina, David is a big chunk! He is already 11 pounds at one month old!

I LOVE Elaina's smiles! So adorable!
